Hansen Automotive, LLC is a family owned and operated buisiness. Ken and his brother, Wayne, run the daily operations at the garage.
Ken Hansen – Owner:
Ken is a 40-year veteran of the Automotive Industry. He had 10 years of dealership experience (Ford, GM and Chrysler) prior to establishing Hansen Automotive. He has operated Hansen Automotive, LLC for 30 years. Ken also taught at the local Vo-tech school preparing students for ASE certification. Ken is an A-Class ASE Certified Technician, and is a member of Automotive Service Association (ASA) and National Street Rod Association (NSRA).
Ken's special expertise includes vehicle Preventative Maintenance; Engine Performance Diagnostics; and Electrical and HVAC Installation and Maintenance. He enjoys classic / hotrod mechanical restoration and performance work.
A lifelong Franklin Township resident, Ken's love for cars began at the early age of 9 when his father taught him to drive in the fields across from their home. He started building and working on cars in the backyard while in high school. Ken worked in dealerships while attending Brookdale Community College Auto Program.
In his late teens, he started drag racing at Englishtown Raceway with his cousin, Joe Hansen. Over the years he bought, reconditioned and sold many cars that would now be considered "classic muscle cars" while developing a personal passion for "street rods" (those high power cars with body styles through 1948).
Ken is active in his church (Somerset Presbyterian) were he helps with Building & Grounds duties and choir. He is also active with music, playing the bass guitar since the 70s in various bands. His wife Gigi is a Civil Engineer. His son Jon, 25, is a graduate of the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences and is a working sound engineer in Santa Cruz, California. Ken's younger son Tom, 21, in enrolled in Rutgers University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Wayne Hansen – Technician:
Wayne began his career working at a local garage and riding and racing motocross bikes as a hobby. Later, he developed an interest in dirt track racing, building his own car and racing in local tracks in the street stock class. He began welding, including fabricating chasses, roll cages, and other sheet metal fabrication for others. Wayne has attended the Skip Barbar's race driving school as well as Buck Baker's NASCAR style school in Atlanta Georgia. Wayne still enjoys motorcycles and rides his street bike for recreation. Metal Fabrication, Welding, Brakes, Steering and Suspension work are his specialties.
